About the Paratrooper Lapel Pin Flying Serpent:
The Paratroopers Brigade also known as the 35th Brigade is a major brigade among the five infantry brigades of the Ground Forces Command of the IDF. It logo is a green flying serpent on red background.
The Paratroopers brigade was established in the mid-50s’ in order to form an elite infantry unit. They were equipped with the UZI submachine gun which was revolutionary at that time.
Paratrooper warriors wear a red beret and red boots. To distinguish themselves from other units, paratroopers wear tunic-styled uniform shirts with a belt on top, in addition to the belt they wear on their pants.
The Paratroopers Brigade has fought in every Israeli War since 1956. They have had only one operational combat parachute drop, during the 1956 Sinai Campaign.
They are also known as the “Liberators of Jerusalem” since in the Six Day War (1967) the brigade took part in liberating Jerusalem, along with the Jerusalem Brigade(reserve) and the Harel armored Brigade. The Paratroopers were the ones to free the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, considered an historic moment and the highlight of the war by the Israeli public.
