The phrase (keeper of Israel slumbers not nor sleeps/לא ינום ולא יישן שומר ישראל) is a part from a chapter out of Psalm 121 “A song of ascents”. This phrase talks about the lord’s protection over the Hebrew people and ensuring them that he will always protect us where ever when ever.
We take this and embrace it on ourselves as when we serve in the IDF we are the front “barrier” between our people and our enemies thus we are the keepers of Israel and the keepers of Israel will slumber not, nor sleep while on watch.
